Open Software Update and install the recommended updates. After you complete the Setup Assistant you will be running a fresh installation of Snow Leopard.

When the installation has finished, the computer will restart into the Setup Assistant.

Continue with the OS X installation and follow the directions.

After formatting has finished quit Disk Utility.

Click on the Options button and select GUID, click on OK, set the format type to MacOS Extended, Journaled. Set the number of partitions to one (1) from the drop down menu. After Disk Utility loads select the out-dented disk entry from the side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive size.) Click on the Partition tab in the Disk UtilityвЂ™s right window. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.

After the installer loads, select your language and click on the Continue button.

Release the key when the Apple logo appears, and wait for the loading to finish.

Immediately upon hearing the chime hold down the C key.

Insert Snow Leopard DVD into the optical drive and restart the computer.

Once you receive that disc, then do the following.

After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. If you don't have them, then you can purchase the last retail Snow Leopard DVD: You will have to start using the original Snow Leopard discs that came with the computer when it was new. I upgrade successfully to Sierra, but the app store is blank. (I had read that a security update for Snow Leopard at some point basically rendered the port useless, but there was a way to fix it.) I tried running this before the wipe - to no avail. Keep in mind, I'm doing all of this through Wi-fi because the ethernet port is either faulty or there is something up with it. At some point in this process I installed this patch from Apple before getting it up to Sierra, but I dont believe it helped in anyway. Otherwise, there was nothing available in the app store for the jump to Lion and beyond. I used my personal icloud login to gain access to the later OS updates through the 'purchases' tab in the App Store. I didn't think I'd be able to get it to the latest in recovery mode, so I figured I could manage the upgrade upfront and then wipe. I figured it would be best to upgrade to the latest possible OS before wiping. It was barely used with literally nothing on the HD but still running Snow Leopard. The Imac was a relative of my boss and he did not know the password - so I managed to reset it in single user mode. I wanted to wipe it clean to give to one my team members so I did the following: Can't do anything after that other than going through the same process again. I click continue and it says 'Loading installation information.' After about 45 seconds it times out and throws up 'NO BAG ENTRY'. In recovery mode I select 'Reinstall macOS', click continue and it says 'To download and restore macOS, your computers eligibility will be verified with Apple' (Knowing that it will need internet access to do this, I turn on the wi-fi and connect successfully). Have an Imac late 2009 that was donated by my boss so that I could use it in my art department - I wanted to wipe and reinstall clean.
